Many of us are currently starting new chapters in different areas of our lives. Whether it is moving into a new home, starting a new job, having a baby, starting a new business, or beginning a new relationship, embarking on a new adventure requires energy, dedication, stability of focus, and clarity of vision. Very often, it is the idea of starting something new that seems frightening to us. As we take the first step, the unknown territory gradually becomes more familiar and we begin to enjoy the process.
How can we bring ourselves to make this first step? I think the above quote by Saint Francis sums it up. The desire for something new is usually born out of necessity for change. Ironically, the unhappier we are now the more energized and motivated we are to change something. At a certain point, current situation becomes so intolerable that the necessity of an adjustment becomes apparent. This is a turning point, when we start to take the necessary action steps to bring about the new vision.
The discomfort that is felt just before this turning point contains very useful information about what we want to have instead. This information can be used to create a vision for the future. The clearer this vision is, the more energy and motivation we can garner for making this transition. By experiencing this temporary pressure, uneasiness, impatience, or lack, we can crystallize our desire and inform our vision for the future.
